How to Use Our Wordle Solver

Step 1 — Enter Green Letters

Type any letters you have confirmed in the correct position. Each box corresponds to a position in the 5-letter word. Leave boxes empty if you do not know that position yet.

Step 2 — Enter Yellow Letters

Add letters that are in the answer but in the wrong position. Check the position boxes to tell the solver which positions to exclude. Click "+ Add letter" to add more yellow letters.

Step 3 — Exclude Gray Letters

Click any letter on the keyboard that Wordle has marked gray. These letters will be excluded from all results. If a letter appears in both yellow and gray (duplicate scenario), the solver handles this correctly.

Step 4 — Review Matching Words

Click "Find Words" and browse the results. Common everyday words appear first by default. Switch to A-Z sorting or sort by vowel count using the buttons above the results. The solver searches our database of over 5,000 valid Wordle words.

Best Wordle Starting Words in 2026

Your first guess is made with zero information, making it the most important strategic decision. Based on letter frequency analysis of all Wordle answers, these starting words cover the most commonly used letters:

Best Two-Word Opening Combos

Pairing two starting words that share no letters lets you test 10 unique letters in your first two guesses. Top combos include:

Why SALET and CRANE Top the Charts

Information theory analysis shows SALET maximizes expected information gain — it tests the five letters that appear most frequently across all valid Wordle answers. CRANE achieves nearly the same result while being a recognizable everyday word, making it easier to remember. Both words contain two vowels (A, E) and three high-frequency consonants, covering the statistical sweet spot.

Wordle Solver Strategy Guide

The Elimination Method

The core Wordle strategy is information-based elimination. Each guess should rule out as many words as possible, not just test a random option. After your first guess, count the remaining possibilities and choose a second word that splits them most evenly. Our solver does this math for you — enter your results and it shows only the words that match all your clues.

Vowel-First vs Consonant-First Approach

The vowel-first approach (e.g., AUDIO, ADIEU) identifies which vowels are present early, narrowing the field quickly. The consonant-first approach (e.g., SALTY, PRINT) tests more consonant positions. Data suggests a balanced approach works best: start with a word containing exactly two vowels, like CRANE or SLATE.

When to Guess vs When to Eliminate

If you have three or fewer possible answers left, guess one of them directly. If you have more than three, consider an elimination word — a word that tests multiple remaining options simultaneously, even if it cannot be the answer itself. This is especially useful on guesses three and four.

Hard Mode Tips

Wordle Hard Mode requires using all confirmed letters (green and yellow) in every subsequent guess. This limits your elimination options but forces disciplined play. In Hard Mode, our solver is especially useful — it only shows words that satisfy all your constraints, which is exactly what Hard Mode demands.

How Wordle Works

The Rules

Wordle gives you six attempts to guess a 5-letter word. After each guess, letters turn green (correct position), yellow (in the word but wrong position), or gray (not in the word). Every player worldwide receives the same word each day.

Daily Reset Time

Wordle resets at midnight local time. A new puzzle is available every 24 hours. Our Wordle solver works with any valid 5-letter word, so you can use it regardless of the day.

Wordle Number System Explained

Each Wordle has a puzzle number counting from the original launch in June 2021. For example, Wordle #1000 was published in late 2024. The number appears when you share your results grid and helps identify which puzzle people are discussing.

Wordle Letter Frequency Analysis

Understanding which letters appear most often in Wordle answers gives you a significant edge. Here is the breakdown based on analysis of all past Wordle answers:

Most Common Letters in Wordle Answers

The top 10 most frequently used letters in Wordle answers are: E (appearing in roughly 46% of answers), A (39%), R (35%), O (29%), T (29%), L (28%), I (27%), S (27%), N (24%), and C (20%). These 10 letters account for the vast majority of all letter appearances. Words built from these letters (like STARE, CRANE, LATER, IRATE) make excellent starting guesses because they test the letters most likely to appear in the answer.

Letter Position Patterns

Letters are not evenly distributed across positions. Some key position patterns to know:

Double Letter Frequency

About 20% of Wordle answers contain at least one repeated letter. The most commonly doubled letters are L (as in SKILL, SHALL), S (as in GRASS, BLISS), E (as in CREEP, GEESE), and O (as in BLOOD, PROOF). If you are stuck after four guesses with no clear answer, consider whether a double letter could solve the puzzle. Our Wordle solver handles double letters correctly — just enter the letter in both its confirmed position (green) and as a yellow letter to find all matching words.

Rare Letters to Watch For

Letters like Q, X, Z, and J appear in fewer than 2% of Wordle answers. While words like JAZZY and QUERY do occasionally appear, you should generally avoid testing these letters early in your guessing sequence. Save rare-letter guesses for when you have exhausted common possibilities and need to consider unusual words. Browse our 5-letter word database to explore words with rare letters and plan your strategy accordingly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our Wordle solver uses a database of over 5,000 valid Wordle words with priority sorting that puts common everyday words first. Unlike solvers that suggest obscure words, we rank results by how frequently words appear in English, giving you the most practical guesses.

That depends on your perspective. Many players use solvers as a learning tool to understand letter patterns and improve their strategy over time. Others prefer to solve completely independently. Wordle is a single-player game with no competitive leaderboard, so how you play is entirely up to you.

The Wordle answer list contains around 2,300 common words, while the game accepts approximately 12,000 words as valid guesses. Our solver database includes over 5,000 words, focusing on the most likely answers while excluding extremely rare or obscure terms.

Some of the historically hardest Wordle answers include PARER, FOYER, JAZZY, and CAULK — words with uncommon letter patterns, double letters, or rare consonant combinations. Our solver handles these tricky words by narrowing results based on your exact clues.

Yes. In fact, our solver is ideal for Hard Mode because it only shows words that satisfy all your green and yellow constraints — exactly what Hard Mode requires. Enter all your confirmed letters and the solver will show only valid next guesses.

Wordle resets at midnight local time each day. Our hints page updates shortly after with progressive clues for the new word. The solver tool works anytime — it does not depend on the daily puzzle.
