How Hidden Word Clues Work

Hidden word clues conceal the answer in plain sight within the text of the clue itself. The answer is literally embedded as a sequence of consecutive letters spanning one or more words in the clue. A hidden word indicator tells you to look inside the clue text for the answer.

Common hidden word indicators include "in," "within," "part of," "contained in," "held by," "some," "a bit of," and similar words that suggest something is inside something else. The indicator tells you that the answer is hiding in the surrounding words.

Hidden word clues are often considered one of the easier types for beginners because, once you know what to look for, you can find the answer by scanning the letters of the clue. The key skill is recognizing the indicator and then carefully checking sequences of letters that span word boundaries in the clue.
